The Turning Year
Historical observances, reconstructed seasonal practice, and modern Heathen celebrations are labeled separately so the app never presents every date as one universal ancient calendar.

The Eight Phases
Practice for this phase
These phase-based practices are modern devotional suggestions. Sacred Year does not present an eight-phase Heathen ritual system as an attested ancient Germanic calendar.
Moon reminders
Receive reminders for major lunar phases alongside your Sacred Year observances.
About the calculation
Sacred Year uses the Moon’s average synodic cycle to provide an approximate phase, illumination, and countdown. Exact astronomical phase times can vary from a simple mean-cycle calculation.
Elder Futhark
Study all 24 runes, separate historical evidence from modern divinatory practice, save a rune, or record a personal reading.

How Sacred Year handles rune meanings
Historical: rune names and core meanings are based on reconstructed Proto-Germanic names and later rune-poem evidence where relevant.
Modern interpretation: divinatory keywords and reflection prompts are contemporary practice and are labeled as such.
The surviving historical record does not give us one standardized ancient “rune oracle dictionary” equivalent to modern guidebooks.
